What To Wear For Your Engagement Session
If your engagement session with your photographer is happening soon and you can't seem to wrap your head around what to wear, I've put together a few tips that would definitely be of great help:
1. Be comfortable in your skin
It's easy to get lost in the rabbit hole of comparing yourself to those heartwarming pictures you see online or your friend's engagement sessions. You've got to feel comfortable and beautiful in your skin, body, shape, and ideas. I know you want perfect pictures, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Still, you don't want to miss out on enjoying the fun moments that come with being photographed.
2. Know your body type
Before deciding your outfit of choice for your shoot, know your body type, and how best to accessorize your favorite parts to be stunning. There are different body shapes - from pear, apple, to hourglass, and curvy. Know the exact category you fall in and invest in trying on outfits that fit. Flatter your body type with the kind of dresses and themes that suit it.
3. Avoid matching outfits
Some might think this is cute, and they wouldn't be entirely wrong, it's just that your pictures might come in as plain. If you want a stunning engagement shoot, try complementary colors and patterns. You and your partner don't have to wear the same thing to capture your engagement session. Choosing colors that balance perfectly with each other, and patterns that aren't too busy are fantastic choices.
4. Go classic rather than trendy
There's a fashion trend for every season, and there's nothing wrong with jumping on that train. Still, for your engagement session, you'd want to try something more vintage, classic, and has been around for the long haul. These photographs will likely be looked over and over again by you, your kids, your family, and grandkids. So wear timeless pieces and styles, rather than something you might need to explain two years down the line.
5. Consider the season
Nature is science and art; the current season you are in can serve as a natural filter and undertone to your engagement photographs. Utilize it! Think of the season when deciding your outfit, especially if you're shooting outdoor. The season will complement your outfit choice.
6. Accessorize
Style your outfit with the right dose of accessories. Jewelry isn't the only accessories there are; scarves, hats, belts, and portable props are accessories (umbrella/dogs). Accessories don't have to be sizable to be seen and appreciated; a small spark of bling on your neck can make all the difference in your outfit choices.
7. Prepare two outfits:
Bring two separate outfits to your session; not only will this be fun, but it would help you have a variety of pictures eventually. I'll suggest you bring a formal and casual look.
8. Laugh
Be yourself and enjoy every passing moment. It's your engagement shoot anyway, so have fun, relax, laugh, and let your personality radiate through the pictures.
Here are three things to commit to mind; Fit, function, and Fabric. Always pick clothes that fit, which are appropriate for the function and fabric that works great.
Remember; Fit is King
