Top 10 Posing Tips for your Engagement Session

If you are like every couple, you want your first or subsequent professional shoot with your soon-to-be spouse to be perfect, seamless, candid and unforced, but this comes with its insecurities and hoping your photos turn out great. It's no wonder many couples have Pinterest boards or idea of what they want, things become scarier if your photographer doesn't know what to do or how to direct the shoot.

Let me put your mind at ease; I have put together 10 poses that would blow everyone's mind.

1. The Pickup;

This pose is simple but there are a few things to put in mind while attempting it. First, I had Matthew lock his hands (by holding his wrist firmly) and then he picked Brenda so she didn't slip. I had Brenda put her hands on his head and neck to draw attention to their faces. This pose creates a very intimate photo.

2. Forehead Kiss

I had Elliott stand at 45-degree angle and Katherine right next to him, she leans the side of her head in (almost like she is facing the camera) and he kisses her forehead. You can't see it but I had both of them place their hands on each other's back to pull them closer. This is a very subtle and calm pose

3. The Dip

The dip is a go to pose for couples, it easy and can be done in a number of ways depending on height and flexibility. It’s one post anyone can attempt, all it takes is distributing your weight and making sure the person doing the carrying has his legs firmly planted and facing towards his partner.

4. Almost Kiss

The goal is to make sure you two are on the same eye level. Close your eyes like you are about to kiss but don't actually kiss. This creates a little tension and passion in your photo and would definitely get you laughing afterward.

5. Pull her close

This pose is a little intense as you will pulling your partner really close. I had Nour cross her legs towards Cameron, so it was easy for her to lean in for the kiss. Cameron's arms around her neck also acted as a support for her head.

6. Foreheads on each on other

It's important to note a few things that make this particular pose work. Matthew is leaning on the wall, has his head and right knee bent, making it easier for Alix to stand upright without having to stand on her toes. When attempting this pose, the taller couple should lean on the wall, this would create a beautiful natural pose.

7. Head to Shoulder

If you on a nature theme engagement session, this is one pose you could try. You and your partner lie opposite each other. And share a laugh or two. For the pose to work, one of the partners has to be propped, notice how Eduardo has his head on Mimi's shoulder.

8. Take a walk

I rule of thumb when taking a stroll together, make sure you two are taking the same foot at a time (i.e., you both take a left at the same time). And have fun in the process, tell jokes, or look at each other. While walking together, you can either hold your partner's hand or their waist.

9. Protective Arm

There are several ways to do the protective arm pose. For this particular one, I had Allen put his right hand under Marianna's and his left one just a little over her shoulder. Also, to avoid Marianna covering Allen, I had her tilt to the side and lift up her right leg for balance.

10. Spontaneously Laugh

While working with your photographer, you want to make sure you are having as much fun as you'd like. Unintentional laughs can't be timed, but you can prepare for it. It's pretty simple, tell each other jokes and be a little silly or goofy if you'd like. It's 100% all up to you to be relaxed and have as much fun possible.

I trust these tips have been beneficial, hit me up if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you or about your wedding or engagement plans.
