You've probably heard many people talk about the wedding mood board, but the idea might be lost to you. After all, your wedding planning has hundreds of details you have to take care of. From picking your wedding venue to choosing the perfect cake for your reception, your wedding mood board will help define your wedding's overall style. It helps organize your ideas about your wedding's look floating around in your head so you can arrive at a final theme.
In this blog post, I would share three critical tips to get you started on this journey. Wedding planning isn't a walk in the park. Still, I hope that as you gather your thought on your notepad, get everyone on the same page and watch this video. Your wedding mood board will serve as a tool to visually communicate the essence of your wedding design.
Wedding planning can be a stressful process that requires you to take care of hundreds of details that range from choosing a venue and picking out a cake to deciding on the color of the napkins for the reception. But one of the more pressing issues is defining your wedding's overall style because that will arguably determine everything else.
Here are some tips to help you get started on the mood board for your special day:
1. Define your vision for the wedding
While mood boards may conjure up images of a collage of pictures, but before you get there, you must map out your idea or vision for your wedding. Take some time to think about how you want the day to look and feel. Start by identifying guide words, such as bohemian, intimate, romantic, elegant, nostalgic, cozy, minimalist, colorful, and so on. Narrow this down to two or three ideas that truly resonate with you. This will provide you with a much clearer vision of how you want your wedding to be.
2. Step away from the internet
Now, here is the part where you pick out images for your inspiration. While we all love Instagram and Pinterest, if you want your wedding to be unique, it is always best to venture out into the real world. You can draw inspiration from your surroundings, from buildings in your city, cafes, bars, museums, and so on. Look for elements that cannot be adequately appreciated online, such as the fragrance of a floral centerpiece at your favorite restaurant. Take pictures of these little things and print them out to have a tangible representation of all that inspires you.
3. Keep everyone on the same page
Your mood board isn’t just meant for you and your partner. It can act as an essential medium of visual reference for your vendors as well. When you share your mood board with your vendors, whether it is the caterers or the decorators, it becomes much easier for them to plan things accordingly as they work cohesively to bring your vision to life.
As your mood board comes together, you will be able to see the bigger picture once you have all the individual elements next to each other, such as the flowers, your dress, invitations, and so on. And that will eventually help you pick out the theme.
